Official Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland

The Republic of Poland strongly condemns the repeated and provocative incursions by Russian military aircraft into NATO airspace. These actions represent a blatant disregard for international norms, treaties, and the sovereignty of Alliance member states. In recent months, we have witnessed an alarming increase in such violations, particularly along Poland’s eastern borders, where Russian jets have deliberately penetrated NATO-controlled airspace without authorization. These incursions not only jeopardize the safety of civilian and military personnel but also undermine the collective security framework that NATO provides.

Poland, as a frontline state in the Alliance, has consistently monitored and reported these incidents to NATO headquarters and international partners. Our armed forces, in coordination with NATO’s integrated air and missile defense systems, have intercepted and escorted these unauthorized flights, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to defending shared airspace. However, the frequency and audacity of these actions—often involving advanced fighter jets like the Su-35—signal a deliberate escalation by Russia, potentially testing the resolve of the Alliance.

We urge the Russian Federation to cease these dangerous maneuvers immediately and respect the boundaries established by international law, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the NATO-Russia Founding Act. Such provocations risk miscalculations that could lead to unintended conflicts, threatening global peace. Poland stands firm with our NATO allies, including the United States, Germany, and others, in reinforcing our defenses through enhanced patrols, joint exercises, and investments in cutting-edge surveillance technology.

The Polish government calls on the international community to impose stricter sanctions and diplomatic measures against Russia for these violations. We will not tolerate any infringement on our airspace or that of our partners. Poland remains vigilant and ready to protect its territory and contribute to NATO’s deterrence posture.
